If you wanted to play a multiplatform blockbuster in 2018 and were concerned with making sure it looked and performed the absolute best it could–giant monsters rendered stunningly in 4K resolutions, dense environments filled with hundreds of characters running at a smooth 60 frames per second–the PC was still the place to do that.

But it’s not all about graphics, of course–the PC’s open nature makes it a natural spawning ground for refreshing innovations and never-before-seen ideas. This year, we were reminded that truly great games can be born and refined in early access programs with the participation of players and an open dialogue with developers. The PC also reminded us that sometimes the most cohesive, risky, and brilliant experiences can be executed superbly by just one or two people. The PC had fantastic games both big and small in 2018. Now, in ascending order of development team size, here are our picks for the best PC games of 2018.

Hitman 2

Unlike most games, which love to send you to outlandish and exotic places, the Hitman series works best when you’re taking down targets in the most relatable, everyday environments possible. Everyone remembers Hitman: Blood Money’s classic clown-at-the-birthday-party mission, for example. Similarly, Hitman 2’s mundane suburban Vermont and dense Mumbai slums missions are the standouts in this new set. The former has you doing a bit of home invasion in between wandering the quiet neighborhood, while the latter’s three objectives are so spread out that it really feels like you’re wandering a packed city with a wealth of ways to accomplish your mission. By contrast, the finale takes place on a ludicrous Bond-meets-Eyes-Wide-Shut island of cultists, which borders on the comical. It’s still a challenging and complex mission but isn’t quite as memorable.

Entertaining mission stories highlight the environments, their characters, and the big opportunities available to you, but each stage still holds dozens of obscure opportunities that invite you to embrace their allowances for flexibility, to break from the mold, experiment and try and achieve things in the most elegant or ludicrous way possible. Regardless of whether you succeed or fail, pushing against the limits of levels, systems, and your own creativity are what Hitman 2 is all about, and the content updates that have occurred since launch have continued to convince us that IO knows exactly what makes this game great. Hitman 2 is one of the best PC games of 2018, but expect the magic to continue into 2019.

Return Of The Obra Dinn

Return of the Obra Dinn stands as something wholly unique. An investigative puzzle game with clear goals but completely open ended paths to completing them, it’s a challenging exercise in piecing together a mystery without being spoon fed what to pay attention to. It’s got some small quality of life issues here and there, but the “moment of death” clue-hunting mechanic at its core is an absolute triumph. Return of the Obra Dinn is one of the best detective games of 2018.
Return of the Obra Dinn gives you only the briefest glimpses into what happened over the course of the game’s narrative, and its potency lies in the trust it puts into you to piece things together using your head. The game gives you broad strokes, but you need to fill in the details by deducing identities and causes of deaths based on faces, accents, movements, probable cause, and more. Obra Dinn excels at making you feel like a real detective, and the thrilling eureka moments you get when you successfully solve even the smallest part of the overall mystery feels nothing but extraordinary.
Return of the Obra Dinn is restrained, yet rich in narrative and characterization, with a cohesion between its haunting visual aesthetic, stirring sound design, and pointed mechanics that must be experienced. It is one of the definitive PC games of 2018.

Monster Hunter World

2018 was the year that Capcom would bring its enormously popular Monster Hunter series to PC for the first time. Monster Hunter World released in January to great acclaim–this was the most accessible the series had ever been, though most of its endearing complexities remained. The result is that a whole new audience was able to discover the thrills of what made this series so beloved to begin with: getting together with friends, tracking down giant beasts, and working furiously to exploit their weaknesses and bring them down with a ridiculous arsenal of enormous weapons.

Monster Hunter World came to PC in August 2018 with improved matchmaking, faster mission onboarding, capable keyboard and mouse controls, and the potential for an even more spectacular visual presentation, making it a platform favorite. On top of being a meaningful and robust evolution for the Monster Hunter series, World is one of 2018’s most defining multiplayer experiences that has remained strong since the beginning of the year.

Into The Breach

Into The Breach is a masterful piece of game design, thanks in part to its concise, no-frills design and the transparency of its systems–the effects of every enemy action are made visible to you before they happen. Its ingenuity lies in the process of working out the most effective way to mitigate the damage to a number of critical objectives before it happens with the use of your limited toolset. But a lot of the time, not everything can be stopped, meaning each turn is a satisfying conundrum of prioritized compromises that are revolved in a wonderfully choreographed ballet of kinetic push and pull, redirected attacks, near misses, and controlled collateral damage.

Dead Cells

Chances are good that you’ve already heard a lot about how great Motion Twin’s Dead Cells is. The 2D roguelike takes some of the most enticing fundamentals of the Metroid and Castlevania strain of platformers and twists it into its own refreshing package that’s difficult to stop playing. There are countless different methods in which to tackle the labyrinth, and with each new randomized run, each life, and each death, you’ll come across new surprises and challenges that will test your wits and reflexes. It weaponizes a continual feeling of incremental triumph, progression, and improvement that echoes the most morbidly seductive aspects of Dark Souls and Spelunky. It’s a compulsive feeling that causes Dead Cells to stay with you for a long time.

Dead Cells has been particularly good on PC throughout 2018 because of the game’s availability in Steam Early Access from mid-2017 right up until its official launch in August 2018. The transparent relationship and dialogue between Motion Twin and the Dead Cells community during this period accomplished implementations of feature requests, bug fixes, and general feedback. In a way, Dead Cells as we have it today is born from the PC platform, but no matter where you decide to play it, there’s no denying that Dead Cells is one of 2018’s paragons.

Aquaman – Most Ambitious DC Movie to Date

“After two years of consuming and devouring my every waking hour, this little indie movie is finally done,” wrote the filmmaker. “It was a monster undertaking. I can’t THANK enough the amazing post team of VFX/editorial/sound for working tirelessly around the clock — crazy-long days, 7 days a week, for many many many weeks without a day off — towards making this a unique and beautiful film. Everyone poured their heart and soul into it, and I can’t wait to share this 21st December! In the meantime, I’m gonna go take a really long nap now.”

DC Comics’ lord of the seas is getting his own solo feature in 2018’s Aquaman. Jason Momoa will reprise his superhero role from 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and 2017’s Justice League for the film, and early reviews offer reason to be optimistic about the movie’s arrival.

Directed by Insidious and Furious 7 filmmaker James Wan, Aquaman follows Arthur Curry (Momoa) as he is forced to reconcile his loyalties to the surface world with his role in the undersea kingdom of Atlantis, which has become increasingly hostile to the humans polluting the oceans. The film’s supporting cast includes Amber Heard, Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, Dolph Lundgren, and Nicole Kidman.

Reviews of DC’s “Aquaman” vary between feelings of surprise and disappointment. Some critics are applauding director James Wan’s strong re-imagining of a previously stale character, while others are harping on DC’s inability to stack up against rival Marvel — but most are just relieved the film isn’t an all-out flop. There are virtually no qualms about Jason Momoa’s performance, which is widely acknowledged to be a vast improvement on the old Aquaman, who was more akin to “SpongeBob’s” Mermaid Man than a DC hero. The bigger problems, critics say, are its unnecessary length and overstuffed plot.

Top Action RPGs of 2018

This year is great for action-RPGs and we still have some more coming until December. Action-RPG is a pretty wide area to cast, so keep that in mind there are gonna be a lot of very different games here. Also, we think they are all worth your time. Here are the Top Action RPGs of 2018.

10. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey

Ubisoft has been talking about how Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is finally a true RPG. Now, the claim that it is now a true RPG is based very much around agency about giving the player choice. Which is great because that’s exactly what Assassin’s Creed is kind of not been that deep into. In the words of the senior producer of the game, they’re trying to keep it very blurry. It means that different answers to different characters can have large effects on what’s going on in the game.

This isn’t groundbreaking by any means but, Assassin’s Creed origins was pretty damn good. Therefore, to see them go further into RPG territory, that’s exactly what we want from this franchise. I can’t wait to play it next month.

9. Vampyr

Vampyr is a game that really looks like it was going to be great on combat. But it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting, it’s a little bit closer to Witcher than I expected. However, at the same time, the addition of this sort of warping really did add a layer to it. I liked it a lot and honestly, I thought it’s a good game, I enjoyed the hell out of this. I mean it’s not without its problems is a bit well let’s just say long in the load screens.

But for the most part, it’s a really enjoyable game with a phenomenal atmosphere. When you occupy this world you really feel like you’re part of it. And this is thanks in no small part to just how well they characterize not just the main character but anybody in this game got so much attention to their character.

8. Final Fantasy 15

It is basically a generation above the console version. It is a superior port in every way and it looks phenomenal. However, this is not the only reason to play it. But, probably the biggest reason to play it is that it’s Final Fantasy 15. And after some argument over whether it is exactly a Final Fantasy game, I think it’s probably the best Final Fantasy game in years. At least in the mainline series, it is.

We haven’t seen that into a mainline game, I’m gonna say even since 10 I did like the sequels to 13. But I’m not gonna call those mainline Final Fantasy games. Final Fantasy 15 manages to put together a story of camaraderie and friendship and really came up with a good open-world concept kind of figuring out a way to make it linear but not linear and has combat systems just want us all to play around in.

7. Victor vran: overkill edition

A revamped version of the 2015 game that really did not get enough attention. It was critically acclaimed but maybe didn’t get the kind of wide notice that it should have gotten. This is kind of an interesting action RPG I mean it kind of melds a few different things. Also, this may be why it didn’t get the kind of attention it should have. However, it melds them really well, it has the more standard action RPG fare as well as somewhat they call reaction based moves.

Even some puzzle elements as well as a classless main character that allows you to tweak them with weapons, items, and various powers. It’s if you’ve got an itch for some Diablo kind of action Victor van we’ll help you scratch it. Therefore, it goes beyond that and it’s really interesting.

6. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna the golden country

As a DLC or an expansion or however you want to put it by all accounts thus far it’s like another game. Therefore, if you like – Xenoblade chronicles – which is really just a phenomenal iteration of the entire Xenoblade series, why wouldn’t you want another story using those conventions. I mean Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s combat is just phenomenal.

It’s such a fun fluid game to play that gives you a lot of control but doesn’t force you down any weird rabbit holes. Also, really has a good enjoyable story with well-developed characters and the series just has a massive history of being great. There’s no good reason not to play this if you’re a fan of any Xeno game.

5. Kingdom Come Deliverance

A complex take on something that really hasn’t been done enough. Now, we all looked at this like it’s gonna be similar to The Witcher except for without magic and that’s not what it is at all. It is kind of like that on the surface, it is a medieval RPG. However, the thing that they really focused on here was creating a combat system that gave you an immense amount of agency.

And it does that, it does it really well. Therefore, this is an interesting game and I think it’s honestly worth trying. But don’t go in thinking hey it’s basically like every RPG except without the magic. It is its own thing but that’s good we need more games that are their own things.

4. Fallout 76

I am a little bit skeptical of this game. Making fallout into a basically ongoing live service, if you told me maybe a decade ago that there would be a Fallout MMORPG I would be there in an instant. I mean for all intents and purposes fallout 76 actually sounds really cool. It’s not so much the idea a world post nuclear war that you’re tasked with rebuilding in an ongoing multiplayer situation. This is more the trends in gaming at the moment that worry me.

That being said, if they manage to make that stuff tolerable or do the right thing and don’t include any of it while at 76, honestly, it could be amazing. It could be one of the better games of the next few years if it works.

3. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate

This is an HD port of an expanded version of Monster Hunter generations. Monster Hunter Generations is especially for a 3ds game just a massive game, there’s so much to do in it. It does so much in sort of retreading ground in a manner that isn’t actually derivative or bad.

This game is enjoyable it kind of pulls off the original idea of the game perfectly, especially for 2016. Also, in an area where it was approaching, I would say the limitations of the 3ds. If you haven’t played a Monster Hunter game and have a 3D, yes this is definitely the way to go. It’s a phenomenal game and a perfect introduction to the franchise. If you aren’t gonna go for the world anyway.

2. Ni no Kuni II

This game took the formula from the first Ni no Kuni and used parts of it that worked very well as well as gave it a new combat experience. The new combat experience is now more action-oriented and it works. In my opinion, the second game is actually more enjoyable than the first. Is it as traditional as an RPG? maybe not.

But it combines elements of a traditional JRPG with a dungeon crawler, with a hack n slash, and even has some other combat situations. The skirmishes are actually really enjoyable and weird. However, it’s got so much charm and the story itself is just like shifts into gear right away. I enjoy the hell out of it.

1. Monster Hunter World

This is just a phenomenal, 100% exactly what it should be game. I can’t really explain how much I like the fact that they made some of the modifications to the formula that they did. However, it’s almost seamless on paper it really doesn’t sound much different but it does have a few more Western conventions in it. And they work really well because they weren’t integrated in a way that really interrupts in any way.

You’re now in a massive open world doing your monster hunting. And that’s exactly what it should be. In 2018 there isn’t an excuse for this not to exist. Fortunately, they don’t have to make one, it’s exactly a Monster Hunter, it should be in 2018. That’s really the only good way to put it.

Rosewill RGB Wired Keyboard

It is one of the most basic keyboards from Rosewill. This is their RGB gaming keyboard and it’s simple, stylized, and not bad considering it’s incredibly cheap. We do get most of the features we want from a more high-end gaming keyboard such as RGB lighting and a pretty decent wrist pad.

It is a membrane keyboard and you can change the caps because the keyboard caps are switchable. For the media-savvy, you do get multimedia keys. But with this one, it’s just about comfort and looks, and for something worth 40 bucks, what you’re paying for is basically like a low-end version of a Corsair keyboard. For which you would otherwise spend a lot more money. Therefore, if you’re into over-the-top gaming style, and don’t want to break the bank, I think this Rosewill RGB Wired Keyboard would be the one you want.

Logitech G100 Combo

Sometimes you have to look around a bit for the Gaming Keyboards, but this one is usually found for around 50 bucks from some third-party sellers. And what you get here is pretty much a basic keyboard and mouse combo. Thankfully it’s a Logitech product and the build quality is nice and overall it’s pretty reliable.

It’s a no-frills build, it’s very durable, the materials are pretty good, and the response time is under two milliseconds. So it’s still pretty fast and accurate if that’s what you’re looking for. And if you’re into that type of thing it does come with highlighted gaming keys. Because that “WASD” and arrow keys are colored and highlighted, so it’s easy for you to find. We can’t say a lot about this other than that, it’s simple, cheap, and reliable.

Razer Deathstalker Essential

Now, we have the Razer Deathstalker Essential, this is pretty much razors trimmed down at the most simple keyboard. And with it you are getting a nice build, that’s a little thicker, and you get a wrist pad. But on the other hand, compared to the other keyboards on this list, this one has the lowest profile keys. So, we actually included it for varieties sake, not everybody likes thick chunky keycaps.

As much as those keycaps are considered better for gaming, this is a pretty no-frills build. And especially considering it’s not RGB lit and it doesn’t have too much razer branding besides the wrist rest. This really is low profile and you can essentially use it at work, in an office. And also feel cool and still feel a little bit like a gamer. Not only that it’s cheap, frankly speaking, it’s one of the cheapest razer’s anything you can get. However, thankfully with that, you do get that name-brand behind it. So, since we are covering all the bases and different types of keyboards, the Deathstalker essential definitely earns a spot in this list.

AZIO Levetron L70

If you don’t care about name-brand that much we do have the AZIO Levetron L70. This goes back to one of the more low-profile gaming keyboards and it’s got a detachable wrist rest. Besides that, it has a volume adjustment knob on the top right, and those things are pretty useful sometimes. Most people use third-party ones to the side of their desk, but to have that on a keyboard is often pretty cool.

Other than that it’s a pretty standard keyboard the key height is about mid-level. So, if you’re not into low-profile caps and you’re not ready to use those big chunky caps then this might be an easy alternative, considering it’s not too expensive. if you want to just kind of test the waters while not spending too much at all consider that AZIO Levetron L70. Every once in a while out there, there’s a cheap brand that you don’t recognize. But it’s really a diamond in the rough and judging from a bunch of user reviews out there, it’s not that bad.

Corsair K55 RGB

The Corsair K 55 RGB is another nice keyboard that has onboard multimedia keys and it’s RGB lit. It also has six programmable macro keys, which is useful, and it does have a wrist rest. while it’s a bit chunkier and a little less low profile, it is still of a nice build. And if you’ve used any Corsair stuff in the past you know that they make pretty decent products, regardless of the price.

Therefore, with this one, if you like things simple but at the same time you do want to stick behind a brand the k55 is under fifty bucks, so you should consider it.

Top 5 Gaming Keyboards Over $100

Now, we’re gonna move on to keyboards over $100. So if you’re looking to spend a bit more cash and get that high-quality keyboard action, let’s move forward.

SteelSeries Apex M750 TKL

This is the same exact thing as the Apex M750, but this is just the TKL version. TKL means tenkeyless because it’s missing the number pad. I know there are some people that absolutely need those numbers, but going TKL saves on desk space and you can leave more room for your mouse as well. And ruin the office uses, a TKL is for that exact reason. Besides that, it has a solid aluminum case that’s built to withstand hours of use and it is surprisingly pretty lightweight. It has SteelSeries’s own QX2 linear Mechanical switches that only require 45 grams of actuation. Which actually gives you really fast reaction times and this board also has some really cool RGB features.

SteelSeries software has discord integrations, so if you’re crazy you can actually get your keyboard to react to certain things on discord. For example, you can have your voice level show up on the F keys, and then have the F Keys turn red when you’re using mute, or even have your keyboard let you know when you have a discord notification. I’m not really into too much RGB stuff like this like when the RGB reacts to having your alt and overwatch or whatever. But still, I just really appreciate this built-in discord integration stuff, it’s just fun.

HyperX Alloy Elite

First of all, it has a very solid steel frame so you can beat around with it and still this thing holds up. And just like every other keyboard of the market right now, it does have RGB. You are allowed to store three different profiles on the onboard memory. So you can change it on the fly by hitting a key instead of having to use software to do so. You are also able to choose what switches the board comes with, you can choose between Cherry MX blues, reds, and browns. Therefore, if you want the more traditional clicky blues you can do that, or go with the quieter and lighter Reds.

It also ships with textured titanium WASD caps. I know some people are just into those big keys being textured, so they’re easier to find on the board. It also comes with non-textured titanium number keys, just one through four. I’ve always been more of a fan of the more low-profile media keys and this board has just that, with a volume wheel that doesn’t take up too much space. You’re just getting a solid quality keyboard that might run you a few dollars, but it does seem like you’re getting what you pay for here.

Logitech G513 Mechanical

Logitech G513 is a keyboard we really like, because of its simplicity, it’s just a very simple pretty looking keyboard. This board has a really nice aluminum brushed metal finish with the gray-black color looking exceptionally nice. It doesn’t have any extra keys like media controls, you have to handle it through the function keys. If you want to change up the simplicity a bit, it does ship with gaming keycaps that you can swap out to give it a little bit of pop. And it also makes the typing gaming Keys a bit easier to use.

You can also change it up with the built-in RGB. You can either use the built-in profiles or make your own using Logitech’s software. The same software also allows you to apply macro commands to the function keys if you’re a macro kind of person. It also has a comfortable memory foam wrist rest. I can definitely appreciate it, not every keyboard ships with one of these. Besides that, the overall simplicity of the keyboard is what makes a Logitech G513 such an awesome keyboard.

Razer Huntsman Elite

This is one of the more expensive boards on the list at a couple hundred bucks but it does have some cool tech. This is razor’s newest keyboard and this one is pretty different from the rest of the keyboards Razor offer. Because it has razors new optomechanical switches. These switches feel like regular mechanical switches, but instead of actuation working via moving parts, it works via a light so when pressing the key it activates the light, which activates keystroke without any delay. This is really cool and we appreciate it. But for most of us using regular mechanical keyboards, we really aren’t going to notice the difference.

It literally saves milliseconds, but the tech behind it is really cool and no one is denying it. The keys still feel like razor green keys which is pretty much like a cherry MX blue switch. So you’ll have that clacky feel and sound. And it’s also worth knowing that each key has a stabilizer so each keystroke is consistent, no matter where you press on the key. The board also has crazy RGB like every other Heiser product. But this time the wrist rest also has RGB, which is cool. It also has features like media keys and one of them is actually a dial. The dial is programmable via Razer synapse if you can get back to work. so, in that case, you can use it to adjust volume or brightness or something else you can think of.

There is also the Razer Huntsman which is the non-elite version of this keyboard. It lacks the multimedia controls, it’s a little cheaper than the Elite version. Both the keyboards are over $100.

Corsair K70 MK.2

This one is a follow-up to the beloved Corsair keyboard. And with this mark 2 version, it seems like Corsair’s approach was like “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.”

But visually they didn’t change much from the last version, but it has a bigger wrist pad. That is just pretty sleek, I’m not gonna lie. It has cherry MX mechanical switches and a basic numeric-pad with slightly tweaked media control buttons. And this one has way better cable routing built-in on the bottom of the keyboard.

For gaming, it is a solid pick that just has stood the test of time. It is quick and it is easy to get used to. And as compared to $200 it still has a premium finish. If you’re generally a fan of Corsair stuff, this is a safe bet, and we don’t think it will disappoint you.

10 Facts about Uncharted

The franchise has set an industry-wide standard for having a captivating story along with, excellent third-person gameplay. Therefore, there’s bound to be some interesting chunks of information. So we’re here with ten facts about the Uncharted series, that you may not have known.

10. Nathan Drake

I think everyone agrees with it, Nathan Drake is cool, he’s charismatic, rebellious, adventurer loving, treasure hunting badass. Therefore, his personality really shines through his moments of relatable jests and overall good guy behavior. When Naughty Dog was beginning to flesh out exactly who the lead character would be of the first Uncharted game, they looked at some real-life examples. During a presentation of the first game in 2008 Naughty Dog’s game designer Richard lemon champ admitted that the designers originally based Nathan Drake on Johnny Knoxville from jackass. Knoxville’s very cynical but overall nice guy attitude guided designers when they focused on creating Nathan Drake. Now Nathan Drake doesn’t do half a stupid stuff that Johnny Knoxville does.

But, Knoxville wasn’t the only inspiration for Nate as series writer Amy Hemmings said that she looked to the grit of Harrison Ford as some inspiration for the character. Even further than that, as a little evidence in uncharted 4. It’s rumored that the sound of the grappling hook is a slight image to the sound Indiana Jones’s whip makes.

The Naughty Dog designers purposely designed Nathan Drake to look like a modern everyday person. Who also happens to be really handsome and bulletproof, but that’s beside the point. They kept his clothes really simple, having him wear a plain shirt and jeans as his outfit. It was all intentional, so they could put more focus on the head model and the facial features. To create more of a cinematic game while giving extra concentration on their performance of the “motion capture” actors.

The designers utilized simple clothing design and body modeling, specifically in uncharted 4 to make sure Nathan Drake had the vibe of a relatable, yet subtly badass adventure character. One of the biggest moments that they set up in Uncharted 4 was, of course, Nathan Drake working a regular normal job and they had to sell that. It had to be convincing that this is him, who once was an awesome video game adventure badass, could also become a regular person at a regular job. And thankfully going back from their design from uncharted 1 it seemed to have come full circle pretty well.

The situation gets a little more meadow when you learn that Sony actually used Harrison Ford and advertisements that promoted drake’s Deception. Now, I know you are wondering “dude why didn’t I see any of these,” that’s because they were only broadcast in Japan.

These TV spots were really simple enough. Ford looking intently into his TV as he’s playing drake’s Deception and whispering commands like jump into the DualShock controller. I guess it’s confirmed our suspicions Indiana Jones is a true gamer.

7. Concept Art

If you’re working on creating a video game or any piece of media. There’s a lot to be said about the importance of sketching out your ideas before you execute them. Whether that be like a story or even some Concept Art this process is usually essential for getting the entire team on the same subjective wavelength. However, there are a lot of hurdles to jump through, if you want to create some good looking 3d concepts for cheap. Softwares like AutoCAD and 3ds max can cost you thousands of dollars just to get creating concept art.

Robh Ruppel art director at Naughty Dog for the Uncharted 2: Among Thieves. In 2009 he used a free and open software for 3d sketching and that surprised people. That’s right a developer creating one of the biggest most popular and expensive games using Sketchup. Well, it surprised everyone. Google owns Sketchup, it is a tool that prides itself on being free and for everyone to use. Ruppel said that the tool helped him to create beautiful concept art in record time. And he heavily used it in creating the Shambhala area at the end of the game. It turns out Uncharted is a really good example of why tools like these should be open-source.

6. Game Development

Developing a video game is no easy task it takes a lot of money, a large number of people, and thousands of hours of work, to produce even a playable demo. let alone a game series that gets bigger with every entry. The Uncharted series is obviously no different in this regard. In 2011 during the late development of the third Uncharted game “Drake’s Deception,” the developer and Naughty Dog’s co-president Christoph Balestra tweeted out a photo of how much space does all of the Uncharted III’s assets occupies.

Essentially the stuff that goes into a game like 3d models sound effects and textures, took nearly 25 TB hard drive. And it took up almost the entire HDD leaving around 700 GB left. Well, 25 TB is a lot of storage. And nowadays most consoles are available with 1 TB of storage. So, it’s no surprise, that at the games released developers had to really work some magic to fit the entire game on a 50 GB Blu-ray disc.

5. The mistake during E3 2015

If you’re an unchartered fan you probably watch the E3 reveal and demos of the game’s releases. Therefore, if you’ve done that you probably know of a little mistake that happened at E3 in 2015 during the demo for the final Uncharted game a Thief’s End.

During the demo on the Live stage, one of the controllers malfunctioned while everyone was watching. Nathan Drake just stood there for 30 awkward seconds, while Naughty Dog’s struggled around behind the scenes to figure out why the game wasn’t working. And turns out both controllers on stage were just connected to another backup PlayStation 4. So a little Easter Egg in Uncharted 4 comes in the form of a PSN trophy called stage fright that pokes a little fun at the E3 mistake.

To acquire that trophy players need to keep Nate standing still at the exact point in the final game that appeared in the demo. Just 30 seconds of standing still and that bronze trophy is yours. So you got to give Naughty Dog some credit for making fun of themselves here, I always appreciate that.

4. Uncharted and Bandicoot

Not only did Naughty Dog release the Uncharted series, but they’re also responsible for everybody’s wumpa fruit loving Bandicoot crash. Now, there’s actually a wild theory out there that Crash Bandicoot and uncharted essentially take place in the same universe where some sort of meta version. This theory has actually been going for a while, you probably know about the big one in Uncharted 4. But the franchise has had small Easter eggs referencing one another throughout the games.

In the first Crash Bandicoot game, the titular characters seem to have a framed photo of Nate on his mantelpiece. This is of course in the remastered and same trilogy version. Besides that, we do have Nathan Drake’s gun holster which does have Naughty Dog on the back of it. And then, of course, there is the big famous scene in Uncharted 4, where you literally sit down on the couch with Elena and play Crash Bandicoot on an original PlayStation. I don’t know if this really does take place in the same universe, but I think it’s safe to say that in whatever universe Uncharted is in they have video games and they have crash bandicoot.

3. Hirokazu Yasuhara

Just when I thought there wasn’t any more room for crazy crossovers on this list, I was immediately proved wrong. This one is just a fun little fact and not so much of an easter egg. But evidently, there’s some other cohabitation when we’re talking about humanlike video game animals and Nathan Drake.

It turns out the lead game designer for a number of games within the Sonic the Hedgehog game series Hirokazu Yasuhara was also a game designer on the 2nd and 3rd Jak and Daxter games. Along with being a designer on the original Uncharted game. Hirokazu Yasuhara has his hands on a lot since he’s peppered his resume with “Pac-man and Mario”. So we’re just recognizing real talent here.

2. Nathan’s Luck Meter

It’s not easy to swing across massive caverns take bullet fire from dozens of different enemies and get out alive. Some might say that in order to survive something like that it takes a little bit of luck. And clearly according to lead game designers from Naughty Dog Nathan Drake literally lives off of his luck.

In July of 2018 animator Jonathan Cooper tweeted out a bombshell that instead of being a regenerated health system, it turns out that the red UI that represents hits on Nate is actually just a luck meter. The redder the screen, the less lucky Nathan Drake is becoming and the luckier enemies get at getting a clear shot at him to take him out. The game and the screen getting more cluttered and red is literally Nathan Drake’s luck running out.

1. Why Chloe? Why Not Sullivan and Sam?

Fans of the Uncharted series are all too familiar with the standalone expansion Lost legacy. Which I genuinely like, but this expansion is the first not to include Uncharted’s lead character Nate and instead it centers on Chloe. But of course, this expansion left a lot of fans wondering, why did Naughty Dog go the route of exploring the story of Chloe? rather than one that focused on Sully and Sam, considering uncharted 4 set that up so well.

Well, excitingly enough it turns out that Naughty Dog did consider a Sam and Sully story. But they kept coming back to the idea of Chloe. In an interview with The Daily Star in 2017, the game’s creative director and writer Shaun Escayg. And Naughty Dog’s director of communications Arne Meyer both of them explained why they chose to tell Chloe’s story. They said, “the Sam and Sully story grew quickly and grew very big quickly but it just wasn’t as compelling.” Instead, the designers decided to go with something that felt a bit more fresh, to explore more deeply the character motivations of Chloe.

But thankfully enough Naughty Dog said in the same interview that they weren’t completely shutting out the possibility of a Sam and Sully expansion in the future. And honestly, I’m holding onto hope, because that’s a game I really want to see. If we’re not getting another Nathan Drake uncharted give me a sully uncharted.

For those curved monitor lovers out there, we have the Samsung chg70. This is a VA panel and I know a lot of people refuse to get anything but IPS. So you’re gonna have to make some compromises with this one even though when it comes to monitors “compromise” is the name of the game. It provides a 2560 X 1440 resolution, which I personally think is the resolution sweet spot.

If we talk about the 144Hz refresh rate it can be brought down to 120 Hz and 60 Hz if you need so. It also has a 1 millisecond response time. With that high response time and refresh rate mixed with the HDR and the AMD FreeSync to help prevent screen tearing. You are getting a really solid curved 1440p display. When we look at its design it’s pretty normal there’s nothing special about it. Although it does have a light on the back, it pulses on the wall behind it.

If you are into that kind of thing you may like this monitor. It also has something called eye saver mode. It is designed to cut back on the blue light emissions which helps to reduce eye strain. I don’t know if this is a gimmick or not, but eye strain is a real thing and it’s cool that this monitor has something in place that’s actively working against it.

3.AOC AGON – AG352UCG6

This is a monitor that was released last year. And AOC recently got a new version of it for 2018. The AG352UCG6 Black Edition is still 35 inches with 3440 X 1440 display with a four millisecond response time. However, the changes they made this time is, the refresh rate has been enhanced from a 100 Hz to 120 Hz and it still supports G-Sync.

The stand was silver in color and it has also been changed to black so that the entire monitor looks very smooth and shiny. sadly those are the only changes that AOC has made. There is still no HDR, which is really getting popular in gaming monitors nowadays. Besides that, going from 100 Hz to 120 Hz is great, but you can get 144 Hz and a lot of monitors nowadays. 120 Hz isn’t totally mind-blowing but for someone like me. I think I am totally fine with 120 Hz considering the price plus G-Sync option.

But there are a lot of spec braggarts out there that might not even look at a monitor because it isn’t 120 Hertz. So, while this monitor isn’t perfect by any means doesn’t mean it is a bad monitor. We could use a better refresh rate, but the 21 by 9 aspect ratio could be an issue with certain fps. Seeing that some don’t support that aspect ratio at all. But because of the VA panel the colors popup and that 1440 resolution looks really sharp, making this an ultra-wide monitor worth considering.

2.ACER PREDATOR X27

This is a beast of a monitor with a 27-inch 4k resolution display. It has a 144 Hz refresh rate with a 4 millisecond response time and HDR. These Gaming Monitors also features a predator game view. It lets you dial in the picture a bit more with settings that you wouldn’t find in a normal monitor. For the price, you’d think you’d be able to adjust the monitor however you’d like. But unfortunately, it cannot turn into portrait mode, because it only moves up, down, left, right, and forward.

However, when you see this monitor for the first time, the first thing you’re going to notice is the anti-glare panels. It works to prevent other light sources to create any sort of glare on the display. Besides those panels this design isn’t too loud, there’s a lot of black and metal and a flat design. I’m sure you’ve realized it already that this one also supports G-Sync. I’m a big fan of G-Sync because it makes games run too smooth. This monitor is worth $2,000 so it’s pretty expensive, which means it definitely isn’t for everyone. But I know a lot of people have been waiting for the release of this one since it was announced last year and I hope it lived up to everyone’s expectations.

This thing is a monster of a monitor. If you want to talk about overkill this thing is over ridiculous than overkill. If we look at the specifications it has a 4k resolution with HDR support, a 27-inch IPS display, which has a 144 Hz refresh rate, with a 4 millisecond response time. So if you’re really into those high frame rates, you’re satisfied here. It also has G-Sync support which means you’ll be getting that high frame per second without screen tearing being an issue.

When we talk about design this thing screams PC gaming. It has the ROG logo on the back of the monitor that will glow whatever color or effect you want. Because it also has two projectors built-in as well so you can project the ROG logo onto your desk and onto the wall like it’s the bat-signal.

This is a little ridiculous but everyone their own preferences. I do appreciate the fact that the arm that holds the monitor does have built-in cable management support. So you can hide all of your cables and the i/o is hidden as well. ASUS ROG SWIFT PG27UQ is worth close to $2,500, so it definitely isn’t for everyone. But this thing is so ridiculous we just had to talk about it

All We Know About The Meg

People love shark movies and people also love to see Jason Statham in Action. Jason Statham is playing the role of Jonas Taylor in The Meg. It is a Gaint Killer Shark movie directed by Jon Turteltaub.

Jonas Taylor is a deep sea rescue expert, therefore, they call him out of retirement to rescue his ex-wife. It is an underwater disaster, where she is trapped at the bottom of the Marianas Trench. However, it isn’t the worst part, because a giant squid attacks her and then comes a giant shark Megalodon, to eat the squid. Besides that, the Megalodons were considered extinct until this disaster happens.

The Meg Summary

There isn’t much to summarize about The Meg. Jonas comes for rescuing his ex-wife and Megalodon escapes into the open ocean. Then it starts eating every that comes in sight and People try to kill it. That about sums it up, just add an out of control shark and Jonas Statham in action. There you have it, The Meg.

The movie is surprisingly serious, considering Jason Statham fights a giant shark. The Filmmakers decided not leave even small things out because every scientific detail was explained in the movie. Therefore, in the end, you will find this movie plausible. When characters die in The Meg, in a very humane way the survivors moan and cry over their deaths. Since the movie was only made to show those people getting bitten in half anyway.

By letting the big action sequences play out huge and filling the little moments with detail. Jon Turteltaub did a very good job directing this movie. The audience will find this movie refreshing. Who are strongly influenced by those movies in which sharks fight mechanical sharks or hybrid wolf-sharks.

When Jonas finds himself swimming in the middle of the ocean, less than a hundred feet away from the ticked off Megalodon. He races that giant fish to a little boat that’s probably not safe. Therefore, the scene is filled with real intensity. Jason Statham doesn’t get to fight as many sharks as we want, but he’s completely at home in this movie. Morris sums him up perfectly: “He looks heroic and he walks fast, but he’s got kind of a negative attitude.”

However, the driving force behind this season was the relationship between “Jimmy” and “Chuck” much like Walter White and Hank. Twin Peaks: The Return

Master of None

Aziz Ansari has grown into a truly gifted actor and storyteller. Master of None which he co-created with Alan yang went to some unexpected places in season 2. However, the storyline primarily remained focused on dev’s loved life. Therefore, the showrunners weren’t afraid to shift attention to supporting players like Denis. She came out to her mother Angela Bassett in the episode “Thanksgiving.”

This particularly ambitious episode takes the main cast out of the equation. Shining the spotlight on several characters we’d never seen before and may never see again. The only thing better than binge-watching this show would be binge eating some of the dev’s delicious pasta.

The Handmaid’s Tale

While Netflix and Amazon have left their mark in this golden age of television. Hulu became the first streaming service to take home a series prize at the Primetime Emmys. The Handmaid’s Tale has not only won Outstanding Drama Series, but also awards for writing, directing, and acting as well. And we can’t think of a more deserving honoree.

Elisabeth Moss gives the performance of her career, as a fertile woman forced to become a concubine. The Handmaid’s Tale uses its dystopian sci-fi to deal with horrifying realities from our own world. Making it an important viewing experience.

As much as haters like to nitpick that complex plan to capture a white Walker. Deep down everyone knows that Game of Thrones was really awesome this year. Because this season of HBO’s epic fantasy series saw Cersei, Daenerys, and Jon at the height of their powers. The Iron Throne’s top competitors have found a common enemy in the “Night King.” However, with the fate of Westeros hanging in the balance. Alliances were made and families were reunited.

Besides that, romance blossomed between the two main characters, some hearts were broken, and loyalties were tested. Some secrets were revealed as well. We all have our own theories on how the series will end. But one thing is for certain the walls have come tumbling down.

Nintendo Switch Things That You Expect

Gamer’s across the world love the Nintendo switch and when rumors turned up about a potential switch mini and switch XL. People wondered what they would be like?

We certainly did so today we’re gonna take a look at what those two systems might be like.

Reducing its size

speculation is rife when it comes to the idea of the switch mini. Ever since the rumors are spreading that, Nintendo is going to shrink its latest console. People have been putting forward their ideas about what it’s gonna look like. One of the best theories came from someone called ‘JTS’ who was a poster on the neogaf website. JTS thinks Nintendo is going to come up with something a fair bit smaller than the current switch. We guess we’ll have to call the switch ‘classic’ or something like that and something more simple too. Here is a hypothetical image.

The detachable joy-cons are gone, replaced by an all-in-one unit. There is going to be a 5-inch screen. And it looks like it will be roughly the same size and same weight as the average mobile phone. JTS thinks there will be a range of color options. while it won’t have a separate dock, it’ll be compatible with the dock switch players already have. Best of all it’ll sell for less than $200 so it’s mini in both size and price, talk about a bargain.

Increasing its size

One of the things which makes Nintendo arguably the greatest console makers of all time is the way they’ve used previous systems to develop contemporary ones. Here’s an example, while the N64’s joypad seemed out of this world and revolutionary. At the time the genesis of its design was in the Super Nintendo’s controllers. The curves, the layout, the shoulder buttons they are all there, they are just made bigger. People who have theorized about the potential switch XL have kept this in mind when they’ve designed what they think it’s gonna look like. When news came out Nintendo was dropping support for the 3DS at the end of 2018 people got to thinking. Especially, as the news came just as the Nintendo switch was dominating the markets. What if this switch was gonna lock down into a portable model with a new smaller version. The idea of the switch mini was an intriguing one, but what if rather than a shrunken regular switch, it was somewhere between the 3ds and the latest model. We find this idea fascinating and it makes us hope Nintendo makes the switch mini a reality. so, don’t automatically expect the new system will necessarily look like a shrunken switch. After all, Nintendo does like their surprises.

How Many X’s?

When people started to pay attention to rumors that Nintendo was going to release a switch XL at some point. They naturally started to wonder what the system would be like. And one thing was pretty sure right from the beginning, the XL would be bigger than the original one. That sounds like a perfectly natural reaction to have on account of the name. However, while Nintendo has always been straight up, they wouldn’t be the first to give a console a misleading name.

YouTuber Kevin Kenson decided to take things to the next level.

Rather than a slightly larger getup, he decided to make it absolutely massive. He got the Nintendo switche’s dock hooked it up to a TV monitor and gave it a portable battery. And there no other topper than this stranger mission. ‘I know you’ this is fantastically weird as it’s a quest in which John Marston appears to be meeting with God or death itself. The quest line sees you completing tasks for the man which acts as morality tests for John. And each step gives you more and more cryptic clues about Marsten’s future. Eventually, you end up pulling a gun on him, shooting him but nothing happens and it’s really eerie actually because you end up being at the exact spot in which John Marston dies, oh yeah ‘spoiler alert’

Borderlands 2

You are cordially invited

Borderlands as a franchise is basically a comedy routine with lots and lots of shooting in between and as such. The devs needed to come up with more and more interesting and insane ways to keep that frenzied feeling fresh. And that’s where ‘tiny tina’ steps in. Tiny Tina is a brilliant, loveable and she is par for the course in this theory’s utterly insane character. And defending her while she has a tea party is hilarious and brutal in equal measure. It’s the dialogue here that makes the situation brilliant. And the equation of insanity plus quality writing times by violence is what Borderlands is all about.

Dark Souls

I know what you all are thinking. “Dark Souls doesn’t explicitly have side quests apart from secret areas and painted worlds.” But for the sake of this record. And, because of how difficult it can be to follow some of these NPC storylines through. We’re gonna consider them as side-quests for this case. Sigma is one of my favorite Dark Souls characters. And the first time I saw his story through to the end, I felt genuinely moved.

He begins so positively seeking adventure, yet always being stumped by challenges that we the chosen undead eventually overcome. He’s always pleasant and happy but this begins to fade as we rescue him time and time again. This is meant to be a great warrior, but we’re almost embarrassing him through helping. The loss of purpose at our own hands is what leads him to hollow. And it’s truly sad to come to the end of his mini-narrative. Yet because of this power, because of this character, I would argue that it’s actually engaging than the main narrative. you may think I’m wrong but as a contained experience. This was more rewarding for me.

Side-Quests of Catacombs

sometimes you don’t need a good story to make a sidequest memorable. All you really need to do is make sure that it absolutely nails the game’s mechanics. And that is definitely the case of the catechu missions found across the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

The player is tasked with a combination of parkour, fighting, and stabbing. That pushes the player to use each option to its full extent. As a result, they often become more memorable than whatever old ‘Desmond’.

The Legend Of Zelda: Majora’s Mask

A Testament of Love

While many may remember Majora’s Mask about the huge moon that’s about to crash into the place. we have to admit, that when it comes to the heart and soul of the game, it is all about the lover’s quest.

This tale of two people torn apart requires a massive amount of time spent by the player to get everything lined-up. And as a result, it becomes entirely engrossing as you finally get the pair together. And they confess their love for each other, the moon hits, and the game once again resets. It’s a sobering moment, but one that sure feels totally justified. These fleeting moments are more important than many other things in the game. And being able to give them this brief window of happiness, puts the entire narrative into context. I felt their loss way more than seeing the moon smashing into the town.

The Witcher 3

No Place Like Home

Playing Witcher 3 on PC with the ultra high setting was the most awesome experience. Besides that, this quest stands in contrast to the entire rest of the game and offers a race of real and interesting experience. Essentially you just relax with your friends and have a beer. The entire quest is made up of well-written dialogue conversation and funny moments. And you barely even have control of Jerald, instead just choosing his next sentence.

Then there’s the fact that you get blackout drunk, chase a goat and end up trying to convince an elf that you’re yennefer by wearing her clothes. It’s kind of like the perfect night out.

Oblivion:

Whodunit

Trying to pick a favorite side quest from a Bethesda title is a tough decision. However, amongst them all, there is one side quest which not only is absolutely brilliant but also it is one of the funniest experiences in an Elder Scrolls game.

The task is simple, murder everyone as a party but the approach is far more complex you can choose whatever method you want to in order to dispatch them yeah that’s right it is as good as it sounds. Through manipulation, subterfuge, and of course the little backstabbing, you can remain the sole survivor and even get away with the murders through lies if you’re that damn good or you can just wade in with an ‘axe’ and just forgo the bonuses choice is yours.

Batman: Arkham Knight

Professor Pyg

Arkham Knight was quite the divisive title when it came out, wasn’t it? on the one hand, you had a beautifully realized Gotham, you got the ability to swing about the place like a god damn madman and you had a vault of villains both young and old for you to destroy. But on the other hand, you got some pretty clunky gameplay you got an over-reliance on the Batmobile and he got a story that tried to have a huge twist but everyone spotted it coming from a mile off.

However, one moment that shone in the dark was this quest focusing on Professor Pyg. The mission was pretty simple, tracked down the swine loving surgeon. For the murder and mutilation of six corpses around Gotham. But the lead-up to the encounter was genuinely creepy. As you learn more about pyg and he reveals how he wants to make everyone perfect, it gives you a quest that becomes a horror story. Even after defeating him the dialogue between Pyg and Batman is superb, as Batman effectively makes Pyg sick by telling him he failed, triggering some horrible mental issues that he’s got going on. As if you weren’t aware that he had them already. But the best part is, is the voice actor who actually is none other than the guy who played howling mad Murdock in the A-team

The Mass Effect 2

Loyalty Missions

It is a bit of a cheat for me to put all of the loyalty missions as one entry on this list. But when you get to the closing stages of Mass Effect 2 and you really understand how much it mattered what you did with your team I think you’d understand why. Now, in truth, some of these missions vary in terms of quality, so if I was to pick one it would be from my gas masked good time girl ‘Tali’ whose mission is ‘trying to defend her dad from accusations’ of messing with the sex robot race ‘the Gath’.

The reason this mission stands so highly is that the tone pacing an action are balanced perfectly with the choices that weigh heavy on your mind and threatened to break up not only Tali and her father but the entire Quarian race if you so fudge it. Now, The Mass Effect 2 whose main storyline was pretty perfect, but this was like a condensed version of it.
